About the Ohio Lottery

Ohio Lottery logoThe Ohio State Lottery was formed in May 1973 and started selling lottery game tickets in August 1974. Like many state lotteries, Ohio’s lottery commission funnels the proceeds of all games into the state’s public education system.

To date, the Ohio State Lottery has recorded over $24 billion in funds raised for Ohio public education. In fact, the commission estimates that its contributions account for around 4% of annual funding for the state’s education system.

Ohio Lottery Tickets

You can purchase Ohio lottery game tickets from authorized retailers and self-service vending terminals. There are currently over 9,800 certified resellers all over Ohio, with over 1,400 KENO monitor stations as well. The official website also has a “Find a Retailer” section that helps you find retailers based on city, county, ZIP code, or even equipment type (e.g., Multi-Play station).

You generally get 180 days to claim any prizes you’ve won:

  • Lottery draw games: 180 days from drawing date
  • Instant win games: 180 days from game closing date
  • EZPLAY  games: 180 days from ticket purchase date

Can I buy OH Lottery tickets online?

No. The Ohio State Lottery doesn’t offer online play for draw games, nor does it authorize or support the sale of lottery tickets online.

However, you can buy electronic tickets through the Ohio Lottery mobile app’s ePlaySlip feature

OH Tickets Payment Methods

You can buy tickets at your nearest authorized retailer using cash, credit cards, debit cards. Ohio Lottery ticket terminals also accept Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit and debit cards, as well as any associated eWallets (like Android Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay).

Ohio Lottery Games and Drawing Schedules

Classic Lotto

True to its name, Ohio’s Classic Lotto sticks to a traditional lottery formula: players must pick 6 numbers, each between 1-49. Matching all 6 numbers drawn gets you the jackpot.

The game starts with a jackpot of $1 million, which rolls over whenever nobody wins. The prize rollover amount depends on ticket sales, though it’s guaranteed to increase by at least $100,000 each time. You have a 1 in 13,983,816 chance of hitting the jackpot.

Classic Lotto draws are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at around 7:05 PM Eastern Time.

Lucky for Life

Lucky for Life is a multi-state lottery game. To play, you must pick 5 numbers, each between 1-48, as well as a Lucky Ball number from 1-18.

Similar to Cash4Life, matching all 6 draw numbers means scoring $1,000 a day for life. Matching just 5 numbers (instead of all 6) gets you the second prize, which is $25,000 a year for life.

Lucky for Life draws are held every Monday and Thursday at 10:35 PM Eastern Time.

Rolling Cash 5

Ohio’s Rolling Cash 5 holds daily draws, with a starting jackpot of $100,000. The prize rolls over every day until somebody wins, though the rollover amount depends on ticket sales for the day. The top prize is guaranteed to increase by at least $10,000 each rollover.

To play Rolling Cash 5, you need to pick 5 numbers from 1-39. You need to match all 5 draw numbers to hit the jackpot.

Rolling Cash 5 draws are held every day at 7:05 PM Eastern Time.

Pick 5

The Ohio Pick 5 runs twice a day, with a fixed jackpot of $25,000 for each draw. To play Pick 5, you must pick 5 numbers, each from 0-9. You must match the 5 winning numbers in exact order to hit the top prize.

You can choose from 9 different playstyles:

  • Straight: You must match all 5 winning numbers in the exact order.
  • Boxed: You can match all 5 winning numbers in any order.
  • Back-Up Bet: Your $1 wager is split between a Straight and a Boxed bet.
  • Front Four: You select 4 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the first 4 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Back Four: You select 4 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the last 4 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Front Three: You select 3 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the first 3 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Back Three: You select 3 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the last 3 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Front Pair: You select 2 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the first 2 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Back Pair: You select 2 numbers (instead of 5), which must match the last 2 winning numbers in exact order.

Pick 5 draws are held twice a day at 12:29 PM and 7:29 PM Eastern Time, with sales closing at 12:25 PM and 7:25 PM, respectively. The exception is the Saturday evening draw, which takes place on the Cash Explosion TV show that airs from 7:30 – 8 PM. For the Saturday evening draw, players have until 7:45 PM to buy eligible tickets.

Pick 4

Ohio Pick 4 draws occur twice a day, with a top prize of $5000 per draw. To play, you must pick 4 numbers, each from 0-9. These numbers must match the 4 winning draw numbers in exact order to hit the top prize.

You can bet $0.50 or $1 and choose from 3 different playstyles:

  • Straight: You must match all 4 winning numbers in the exact order.
  • Boxed: You can match all 4 winning numbers in any order.
  • Back-Up Bet: You can match the winning numbers in any order or in exact order. Available only at $1 per ticket, with $0.50 each going to Straight and Boxed wagers.

Pick 4 draws are held twice a day at 12:29 PM and 7:29 PM Eastern Time, with sales closing at 12:25 PM and 7:25 PM, respectively.

The exception is the Saturday evening draw, which takes place on the Cash Explosion TV show that airs from 7:30 – 8 PM. For the Saturday evening draw, players have until 7:45 PM to buy tickets.

Pick 3

Pick 3 draws are held twice a day, and you can win up to $500 per draw. You just need to pick 3 numbers from 0-9. To complete your playslip, select your playstyle, wager amount, and draw schedule.

You can choose from 7 different playstyles:

  • Straight: You must match the winning numbers in the exact order. Available for $0.50 or $1 per ticket
  • Boxed: You can match the winning numbers in any order. Available for $0.50 or $1 per ticket.
  • Back-Up Bet: You can match the winning numbers in any order or in exact order. Available only at $1 per ticket.
  • Wheel: You get to play Straight bets for all possible combinations of your chosen numbers, boosting your chance of winning.
  • Front Pair: You select 2 numbers (instead of 3), which must match the first 2 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Back Pair: You select 2 numbers (instead of 3), which must match the last 2 winning numbers in exact order.
  • Split Pair: You select 2 numbers (instead of 3), which must match the first and third numbers drawn.

Pick 3 draws are held twice a day at 12:29 PM and 7:29 PM Eastern Time. Ticket sales for these draws close at 12:25 PM and 7:25 PM, respectively.

The exception is the Saturday evening draw, which takes place on the Cash Explosion TV show that airs from 7:30 – 8 PM. For the Saturday evening draw, players have until 7:45 PM to buy tickets.

  • $1
  • $2
  • $3
  • $5

Ohio Lottery EZPLAY

The Ohio Lottery also has tons of EZPLAY games: instant-win games that don’t even need card-scratching. All you have to do is check if the numbers printed on your ticket are a match. To spice up the EZPLAY catalog, the Ohio Lottery offers variations such as:

Progressive Jackpots: each game’s jackpot amount updates every 2 minutes

Countdown: retailers are assigned to groups, and players’ tickets put them in the running for the top prize within their retailer’s group

Touch & Win: a fusion of EZPLAY and traditional Keno, players choose numbers in real time at their retailer’s Touch & Win terminal

Ohio Lottery KENO

The Ohio Lottery also runs several Keno games, with drawings happening every 4 minutes. The Keno draw cycle starts at 6:04 AM each day and runs until 2:28 AM of the next day.

Ohio Lottery Second Chances

What is Second Chance?

Second chance games give you another chance to win prizes with your non-winning lottery tickets. Many lotteries simply ask you to submit your tickets for a chance to win. Prizes can go as high as several million dollars per game. To learn more, check out our article on second chance games.

How does Second Chance work for the OH Lottery?

Like many state lotteries, the Ohio State Lottery runs several limited-time second chance games. The line-up changes periodically, so you should check the Ohio Lottery’s page for second chance games if you’re interested in joining.

To participate in second chance drawings, you’ll need to register for the Ohio Lottery’s MyLotto Rewards program. Signing up is free, and you have the option to use your non-winning tickets as second chance entries or outright points to redeem items from the rewards store.
