Sarah Hebert from Jennings, Louisiana was one of the winners of the August 23, 2017 Powerball draw. She didn’t win the $758.7 million jackpot, but the mother of three still took home a hefty sum–$2 million! After state and federal tax withholdings, she received $1.4 million. Portions of her win will go to her kids, as well as to a new home. The winning numbers for the August 23 draw were 06-07-16-23-26, with 04 as the Powerball.
Another winner for the August 23, 2017 Powerball draw has come forward. This time, the owner of the $1M winning ticket is actually a 16-strong lottery club. The club had been religiously playing Mega Millions and occasionally, when jackpots soared past $500M, Powerball for the past three years. Each member contributed $5 per week. Finally, their efforts have paid off, with each member taking home $44,200 after taxes. The group said some of them would be using the money to pay bills, while some would pay off their student loans.
Hani Haidar-Ahmad had been playing the same set of numbers for a while now, even if his picks weren’t paying off. Still, the 55-year old resident of Dearborn, Michigan kept at it until—lo and behold—he matched five of the Mega Millions numbers for the July 4, 2017 draw. His reward for being so persistent? A cool $1 million.

Mark your calendars! The Ohio State Lottery will soon make credit card purchases available for self-service lottery vending machines—which would make the Buckeye State the first to do so. Around 6,000 machines are currently being equipped to handle transactions via cash, credit card, debit, and even e-wallet payments.
Unsurprisingly, some pundits are worried that the convenience offered by such machines would cause complications for over 170,000 gambling addicts in the state. For their part, Ohio Lottery is planning to limit transactions to $100 per card a day to nip these issues in the bud. The new machines will be launched starting October 29.
Good news! The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has recently revealed that net proceeds are now at $705,031,573.17. Since 2009, the Lottery has been helping fund countless college scholarships for students in the state, and this latest development means that funding isn’t slowing down any time soon. Powerball and Mega Millions, which both had huge jackpots recently, were instrumental for the scholarship funding breaking the $700M barrier last August, with net proceeds for the month totaling $8,912,741.54.
